Arms Wide Open

Animals need shelter. No animal thrives on the streets, no animal survives without love.

NicaLove founder Julie Burke’s recent six week period in Nicaragua solidified her drive to get the shelter and veterinary clinic open as soon as possible. Much of her time was spent running from place to place, from local communities in the San Diego area, to the city of Managua, and as far as a sanctuary in Masaya where close to 70 of our dogs call home. NicaLove hosted an adoption fair, collaborated on 4 mobile vet clinics, and supported 10 animals in need within the immediate community. A central location will help NicaLove plant roots. It will reduce the amount of time spent moving around and help focus efforts locally. And it’s getting there.  We have the land, we have the design, and plans for the physical space have begun.

shelter in Managua, owned by our animal welfare partner, Fundacion ADAN. Storage containers for kibble, medical supplies, leashes, collars, grooming supplies, large water barrels, pee pads, a dog scale, first aid supplies, and replacing an outdoor sink: all the necessities for the animals in our care.

Julie’s last whirlwind in Nicaragua also included directly supporting humans. From helping to purchase a wheelchair and a bike for two children with physical disabilities and challenges with mobility, to supporting a rural community school with necessary school supplies, NicaLove spread love far and wide.

It is through donations, a handful of passionate volunteers, and our animal welfare and veterinary partners that all of this work is made possible. The more donations we acquire means the more change we can make in the lives of animals (and the humans who care for them).  Please consider sharing the stories of NicaLove with the animal lovers in your life!

Kicking off 2022 with a big impact!

255 Spay/neuter surgeries
66 Equine wellness check-ups
308 Wellness check-ups (dog/cat)
200+ Rabies vaccines
203+ Multiplex Vaccines (distemper, parvo, flu, lepto etc)

And that’s just the beginning!!

Thank you for believing in our work and mission. Without you we wouldn’t be able to help alleviate the pain of domestic and working animals in Nicaragua. One local stated, “Every year the animals at the clinics seem to be better cared for and in better health.” Not only is NicaLove providing medical care but we are also increasing awareness of humane treatment of animals. Our impact is undeniable.
