Grace only has three legs but she is bursting with mobility. Rescued September 2020, Grace is approximately three years old. She was found tied to a fence on the side of a road with a severely damaged paw and leg. Her wounds were packed with maggots. While her leg couldn’t be saved, Grace was otherwise healthy, and she is ready for adoption.
Some people might look at Grace and think because she has three legs there is something wrong. As humans, we need to challenge conceptions of normalcy and beauty. A missing leg doesn’t lead to an absence of love given, it doesn’t lessen the intensity of companionship, and it certainly doesn’t restrain the will to experience joy. Grace isn’t special needs, but she is superbly special.
NicaLove founder Julie Burke had the opportunity to foster Grace during her last trip to Nicaragua, late January – early March 2022. Grace proved to be the perfect family dog. She loves kids and humans in general. She loves dogs and she loves cats. And she loves (to chase) chickens. Grace walks on a leash and barks very little. Even with only three legs Grace moves through the world with grace and manners.
Grace is one leg short because a human decided to abandon her. This is likely because the human couldn’t afford veterinary care for her trauma. But this is not the beginning and end of Grace’s story. With NicaLove’s support of her amputation and recovery, Grace has bounded back with pep in her step enough to walk, play, and even jump onto the bed for nighttime snuggles. She is an intelligent woman that no one can hold back. She’ll defy your standards of beauty and she’ll break through your expectations of ability.
