Equine and Working Animals Clinic
There are an estimated 325,000 working horses in Nicaragua and the vast majority of these horses are in great need of accessible veterinary care. As most of us know, Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. Life can be a daily struggle for many of Nicaragua’s working animals who face unimaginable hardship. These animals, however, offer Nicaraguan families the ability to transport products and people and, these animals are a necessity for financial and social well-being of many Nicaraguan families. As you can imagine, these animals are worked extremely hard. NicaLove offers support to those living in the most vulnerable communities by providing free veterinary care with the hope that these working animals can live a life without pain or suffering. With our support and, with the help of our on-the-ground veterinary team, these working animals will suffer far less and, in turn, they will be able to better support the families that rely on them while, at the same time, maintaining good health.
Did you know that 90% of the world’s equine population resides in developing countries and the majority of these animals never receive access to care? We’d like to begin to make that change. Our wish is to be able to provide sufficient funds to support several small clinics providing 300 working animals access to free wellness care! These clinics offer working animals with hoof trimming, dental work, vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick treatments, wound care, education (changing human behavior) and more.
$10 provides a full exam and follow up care if needed.
The cases of animal cruelty that we have seen on the ground in Nicaragua and hear about from our partners are often incomprehensible. This month, our veterinary partners received two calls about horses that had been literally thrown away because they were no longer able to serve the humans they worked for. These animals were tossed aside after years of service and after suffering horrific injuries caused by years of mistreatment. Injured horses are commonly discarded to the side of the road wherever they have fallen or they are often left in the dump to suffer until they die. Fortunately, the two cases that we received news about this week have been euthanized and are no longer suffering. We are hoping to lessen the horror stories of discarded horses found in ditches or in municipal dumps. The reality is that these hard-working animals suffer their whole lives. Our voices and advocacy can make a change! NicaLove’s goal is to keep these hard-working animals healthy so they can live a life without pain and suffering
NicaLove has, thus far, sponsored four clinics providing over 240 working animals with veterinary care. It is a service we truly believe in. These wellness clinics are desperately needed now more than ever. Join us in our work. We’d love your help!
